Durham Public Schools
Jenny Umbarger is in her 16th year as School Library Media Coordinator at Rogers-Herr Middle School in Durham, and currently serves as the Library Media Lead for the Middle School Cohort for Durham Public Schools. She earned her BA in Middle Grades Education from UNC-Chapel Hill and, after teaching 6th grade for four years, began her work as a teacher librarian and earned her MLS from North Carolina Central University.
In addition to serving on various committees at the school and district levels for the past 20 years, Jenny has also served in various roles in the state library organization, including regional representative for the middle school Battle of the Books committee. She was named as a regional finalist for the North Carolina School Library Association Media Coordinator of the Year award in 2015, and was recognized as Employee of the Month for Durham Public Schools in January of 2016. Having just completed the School Library Supervisor certification, Jenny is thrilled to be part of the Lilead Fellows Program and is eager to learn from and collaborate with the other Fellows from across the nation.
