Course #1:
Preparing for Transformational Change

Dates: October 16, 2019 – December 6, 2019

Description: Implementing real, lasting, transformational change is difficult and time-consuming in districts, schools, and school library programs. There are many obstacles and roadblocks that hinder even the most dedicated and passionate individuals from creating lasting, positive change. In this 7-week course, participants will learn about change theory, such as the Kotter change model, and reflect on the ways they can use these principles to influence change in their schools, districts, and states. Participants will identify an issue in their school or program that is important to their school, district, or state’s priorities, examining and planning practical and tangible ways the school library program can help address the issue. They will identify new ways of thinking about their library programs and how they can lead change efforts at the building-, district-, and state-levels.

Course #4:
Cultivating Individual and Team Leadership

Dates: April 29, 2020 – June 10, 2020

Description: This online course will enable participants to learn about their specific strengths in leadership. Participants will focus on building leadership skills that enhance their individual strengths, emboldening them to take on leadership roles in their schools, districts, and states. According to AASL’s National School Library Standards (2018), ‘leader’ is one of the five roles of the school librarian. It is imperative that those working as school librarians, school district library supervisors, or state school library coordinators embrace this role with conviction and passion. Leadership is less about a person’s position or job title, but their mindset and actions in whatever position they serve. This course is designed to help participants understand their role as a leader and to equip them to be stronger, more effective leaders in their buildings/districts/states.
