School Library Journal Publishes “Take the Lead” Series by Lilead Fellows

School Library Journal, a supporter of the Lilead Fellows Program, has published the first three articles in a new series focusing on and written by the Lilead Fellows. In their articles for SLJ, the Fellows “will share their wisdom and provide strategy tips on a variety of topics relating to leadership.” SLJ and the Fellows have agreed to a 7-part series, with the possibility of more. Keep a look out for the upcoming articles!

The first post, published in June 2016 by Lilead Fellow Priscille Dando, coordinator of Library Information Services at Fairfax County (VA) Public Schools, underscores the importance of understanding district-level priorities in the work as instructional leaders.

In July, Fellow Rachel Altobelli, director of library services and instructional materials for Albuquerque Public Schools, discusses the importance of building a network of library advocates and supporting district goals.

The most recent post, which was also published in the most recent printed issue of SLJ, was written by Fellow David Blattner, chief technology officer and executive director of media and virtual learning for Iredell-Statesville (NC) Schools. Blattner outlines and explains guidelines for connecting with your principal to promote the library’s goals.

The Lilead Fellows have recently completed an intensive 18-month professional development program designed to empower, enable, and equip school district library supervisors to think differently and creatively about their library programs and to be effective and inspirational leaders for change in their districts.
